In my quiet time today, I studied Psalm 27:14 "Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord." I prayed "Help me Lord to get off of my clock and on your time." Last night, we were getting worried about things that we couldn't control...the length of time we would spend in the NICU, etc. This verse just reminded me to "wait". Today when we walked in to the NICU, Ethan was breathing well and seemed very relaxed. He is still on an oxygen cannula but otherwise breathing on his own - PRAISE THE LORD! We both got to hold and rock him today - he is already spoiled - he loved it and was very content in our arms!! Ethan also had his first bottles of breast milk today, and the nurses let Bonnie and I help feed him. Overall things are going very well, and Bonnie and I are giving God all the glory. Please pray that Ethan continues to breathe well on his own in order to wean from the oxygen cannula and improves on his feedings. We are excited to get in there tomorrow and hold him some more!!

  2. Those shots of ya'll holding Ethan are priceless. Just remember, as you hold him you are also being held by the Master's hand. Every demand on you is a demand on the Holy Spirit within you. The Lord's resources are limitless. Just take a step at a time like you've been doing. Okay, that's my sermon for the day. Love Ya'll and I'm praying for you.

  8. Bonnie-
I am totally overwhelmed when I read all of your postings. Having had the experience of losing Charlie, I can't even imagine what you are going through right now. The emotional ups and downs that you are weathering are taxing I am sure. I have definitely been praying for all 4 of you. I have badly wanted to come and visit you but have held back for fear that it will be too hard for me. The anniversary of Charlie's death was last Sunday (Sept. 13) and even though it has been 3 years, I still have a hard time around this time of year. I am deeply thankful for the progress that Ethan has made. I Just hope that he continues to improve at the pace the doctors want him to. I would love to bring you all dinner one night if you are up to it (I am only 15 minutes from Children's Hospital). Please continue to update us as you can. I love you all!
    Love,

  9. Bonnie (and Kerry),
It really will go fast now. Everything is in God's time, but I have been where you are and have had several friends who also have. And being a nurse, everything sounds WONDERFUL. (i know you probably wonder how i can say that when he isn't home yet.) But trust me, he will be sooooooon. I can see it. I am so proud of you guys for your steady faith and of Ethan for the little fighter he is. Love yall!

  11. You all are in our thoughts and prayers daily! God will bring you through this and make you stronger. I know it is sucha glorious feeling to get that breathing tube out. Our daughter had it in for 6-8 weeks and was aweful to see her struggle! Everyday know that GOD only gives what he knows you can handle even when some days you find yourself doubting him. Trust in the Lord, The Mason's (who were at UAB for 10 1/2 long and horrible weeks)
